The parietal lobe is often divided into two functional regions known as the anterior zone and the posterior zone. The anterior zone is know as the somatosensory cortex, while the posterior zone is known as the posterior parietal cortex. The regions and structures that make up the parietal lobe include the postcentral gyrus, the superior parietal lobule, the parietal operculum, the supramarginal gyrus, and the angular gyrus. The supramarginal gyrus and angular gyrus together are referred to as the inferior parietal lobe.
